I watched Plastic Wars. I learned that plastics producers have been pushing recycling as a way to improve the public image of plastic.

I have been using my trash bag from the bathroom to scoop my kitty litter into to reduce my bag usage.

This weekend I picked up reusable produce bags from buy nothing. I feel like that deserves double the points - right?

I put enough cups, utensils, plates, and napkins in my kit for my family of four. I’ll keep it in my car for easy access when we’re out and about.

This month, rather than buying something new, I was able to finish sewing a new vest for my nephew out of second-hand fabric from my grandma! A generational piece of clothing that can hopefully last for many years to come! :)

The clothing industry as a whole is not very transparent about waste, sustainability, or ethical work conditions. It's unfortunate that a daily need like clothes can pose a moral and ethical dilemma. Even when clothing companies do discuss how their products are made, it can be hard to decipher what is fact and what is green-washing for the sake of gaining customer rapport. I get daily emails from clothing companies, one of which is Outdoor Voices, a recreational clothing company. They talk a lot about sustainability and even dedicate a page on their website that discusses concrete ways they are taking action to reduce waste, reuse plastics in their fabric, and plan for the future. It is encouraging to see what they are doing and I hope this advocacy is reflected in more areas of the industry in years to come. If you would like to see what this company is doing you can check it out here!

My plastic free challenge is going well. I am really excited to bee learning new ways to lessen my contribution to landfills, and hope this consciousness can carry through for months and years to come. It is really fun to have the challenge be so localized to my community.

    Personal Care Collect My Contacts
Take a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?

I use monthly contacts, not dailies, but I'm storing up a stash to recycle in a few months.

    Food Make Your Own
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

I loved making my own bread. I chose a super simple recipe, but I’d love to try something more complicated.

If you want to try something a little more complicated, I could give you some of my sourdough starter! I wouldn't say it is very hard, but it is a bit more time consuming.

It is going well. I love being more intentional about my plastic use, and find myself being more conscious of my plastic footprint.
