My mother in law gave me this beautiful flower "cake" for my birthday that came on a specialized plastic cake stand that wouldn't work for real cakes. Once the flowers died I reached out to see if the floral shop could reuse it and they were very happy to do so. I think this challenge has helped me to think through the disposal process more than I might otherwise.

Making an effort to make dinners vs delivery.    Lessens use of plastic by reusing dishes, pans, silverware.  Less fossil footprint too.

I watched Frontline's "Plastic Challenge" last night.  Wow!  And this morning I thought of something else that was not mentioned in the show;  we have also been taught to believe that plastic encasement = sanitary.  When my children were young, we would buy diapers in boxes and the diapers were just in the box.  Now with my grandchildren, the diapers are encased in plastic inside the box.  But is that really necessary?  Aren't the diapers manufactured under the same conditions?

That's a fascinating observation, Jean! Something we see a lot with medical/dental equipment too ...

Hi friends! One of our teammates and I were just sharing some of our favorite media about plastic waste and I thought I'd share them with you as well!

    Planet Money | Wasteland: https://www.npr.org/2020/09/11/912150085/waste-land
    Frontline/PBS Special "Plastic Wars": https://youtu.be/-dk3NOEgX7o
Throughline | The Litter Myth: https://www.npr.org/2019/09/04/757539617/the-litter-myth

What have you watched, read, or listened to about waste reduction that has made an impact on you?

I used the link under "Learn More" on that action.  Just 1/4 cup vinegar and water to fill a 16 oz. spray bottle (and I just reuse a spray bottle from when I bought an all purpose spray) and then 1 & 1/2 tsp. non-antibacterial dish soap (I like the Ecos brand).  Although I just give it a squirt of soap.

Has anyone heard how dental professionals feel about tooth tabs? I really like them, but I also want to make sure they are effective and not harming my enamel ...

    Personal Care Choose Plastic-Free Deodorant
What benefits have you noticed after switching deodorant? Softer skin? Better scent? More peace of mind?

I LOVE the scent of my new deodorant (which I got from our neighborhood buy nothing group from a neighbor who only used it once). The brand is Schmidt's and it's scented like lavender and sage. Feels like a special treat to get to wear it each day

Went on a walking tour of murals around an industrial area today and found LOTS of trash to pick up

Read about dental floss and its negative impacts on the environment.  Had never looked at this before so am now researching alternatives.
