Today I purchased from the Wedge Co-Op: 1. Bee's Wrap (reusable food wrap good for wrapping cheese, half a melon or cover a bowl) for $6.99.   2. Stasher brand reusable silicone storage bags for freezing, storing, refrigerating and can be used thousands of times. Various sizes: sandwich 2/$22; half-gallon $20, snack bag $9.

I walked by a group homeless people living in tents, and saw a sizable pile of trash.  I realized that these people do not have the resources for garage pickup.  Ironically, I thought about carrying plastic (!) bags to give to people to pick up their own trash.  I would pick up more litter if I carried more plastic (!) bags and gloves.  We need an alternative to plastic trash bags.

I watched the CBS News hour special on plastics. 40 per cent of plastic is single-use. A global commitment and effort by all levels of society - industry, government, consumers - is needed. Canada is one nation that has taken up the challenge. Their citizens are stepping up to recycle plastic.

Already roads are being resurfaced with recycled plastic. Scientific researchers have discovered bacteria that actually consume plastic.
An inventor has produced a product that has the strength, durability and clarity of plastic that is completely compostable.

I'm interested to hear about buying packaged of meat.  The choices seem to be meat on a styrofoam tray wrapped with plastic wrap, prepackaged in a sealed plastic bag, or the butcher counter with plastic coated paper.   I'm guessing the plastic coated paper has the least impact, but don't really know.  Any answers?

    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I think packaged produce serves the store:  it's easier to stock the shelves, encourages shoppers to buy more than they might, prevents shoppers from touching the produce which may cause bruising, tears or contamination.
I take my cloth produce bags as well as some clean, used plastic bags (for wet produce) along with my reusable shopping bags when I shop for groceries.

Technical issue and question to team members: I am not able to enter or complete "Actions" on my Mac laptop computer using the Safari browser. It works using Chrome browser on my Mac and it works on my iPhone. Is anyone else having this problem?
