Chris's Actions
Kids
Make Thoughtful Toy Purchases
I will buy cloth, wooden or plant-based natural rubber toys. Or I will make my own toys from repurposed items found in my home!
Kids
Avoid New Baby Items
I will avoid items marketed to first-time parents and instead use or refurbish items I already have or get them from friends or family.
Food
Ditch the Baggie
I will ditch the zippered plastic bags for food storage and switch to reusable containers.
At Home
Plan a Garden
I will plan an herb or vegetable garden for next year at my home, workplace, or community garden.
At Home
Extend the Life of Electronics
Manufacturers want you to replace your phones every year. I will keep my phone for at least 3 years and make any necessary repairs or updates to keep it functioning as long as possible.
At Home
Recycle Plastic Bags
Instead of trashing them, I will recycle 4 plastic bags per day by bringing them to a drop-off.
On-the-go
Recycle at Work
I will recycle my plastic containers at work, and if I can't find a recycling bin I'll bring the item home with me.
On-the-go
Pack a Lunch
I will skip eating out and bring a lunch from home in reusable containers.
Pets
Clean Up Pet Hair with Reusables
I will use a reusable lint brush or vacuum to remove pet hair from clothes, carpets, and furniture.
Food
Stop Buying Water
I will stop buying water and instead use water from the tap or invest in a water filter if water quality is a concern.

Chris Pickett 2/10/2023 10:22 AMAs of 2015, more than 6.3 billion tonnes of plastic waste had been generated. Around 9 percent of that was recycled, 12 percent was incinerated, and 79 percent accumulated in landfills or environment. This means that there is about 5 billion tons of plastic polluting our world. -
Chris Pickett 2/02/2023 12:04 PMToday at the grocery store I got the string cheese that all came in one package rather than individually wrapped. The packaging still contained plastic but so much less than the alternative. Little victories count.-
Krina Damien 2/02/2023 8:32 PMYes! I've done the same before and I also think it is a victory :)
