I love this challenge! I am in the environmental field so watch this stuff, but it is amazing when you actually take the challenge of how ultra-aware you are of all of the plastic around you! I have really watched my consumerism--and I am irritated that it costs more to be package-free! I am tempted to run for our co-op board!!

I am finding myself doing so much more "basic" cooking. Instead of buying bread, I am making knead-free bread and vegan flatbread. They are so easy I am not sure why I was ever buying it before. Homemade hummus starting with dried beans purchased in bulk (I do have an instant pot speeding up the process) is just as good and no plastic container. Happy to share recipes if anyone is intersted!

    At Home Plan a Garden
Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

    Personal Care Purchase Alternative Toothpaste
Currently, most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. What has been your experience using plastic-free toothpaste options? How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

So far I love moving into making some of my own products. I have done this with cleaning products for a long time, so this has been a fun area to explore. My frustration is so many of the ingredients have to be purchased at Tare Market (which is a 30 minute drive away) or I have to purchase them in plastic packages if I want to buy them in quantity.

Although I know about these harmful plastics, this reminder to really pay attention to what I am buying (or actually now not buying) is such an eye-opener!

Trying new recipes is fun, so this was an easy one. The hard part is some of my go-to items come in plastic packaging. One of the big things I have been making to eliminate plastic packages has been making bread. My favorite easy, to-to is a no-knead version. Delicious! https://joyfoodsunshine.com/easy-no-knead-bread/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=tailwind_tribes&utm_content=tribes&utm_term=1005022766_45351130_465382&epik=dj0yJnU9ZDdBckJydHVLTW9lRThUQUswR05IWkYyV3owSWJvem8mcD0wJm49VmhleVk5YkdPNHBUb2lDLXk0UGYwdyZ0PUFBQUFBR0FhdFA0#wprm-recipe-container-8787

Although I won't buy additional, I do use what I have over and over, washing in between.

At Home Ditch the Disposable Cleaning Wipes
How have you modified your cleaning routine to make sure you aren't using disposable wipes? Are you satisfied with the results?

Although I generally use a microfiber cloth to clean, I did turn to paper towels for some things. I have added a few rags today instead, and no issues! Why wasn't I just using those before?

I had my first shopping run of the challenge. I went to Lakewinds Food Co-op in Chanhassen. I took my clean, empty jars. Weighed them for the tare weight. Filled them with flour ($1.99 lb. so cost me a bit more); nutritional yeast; Tumeric; and walnuts. Purchased fresh lettuce bundles instead of the usual purchase I make of the pre-washed in plastic tubs. Did not purchase: blueberries, cauliflower, snap peas, mushrooms. All were on my list but all were wrapped in plastic or in plastic containers. Any ideas on purchasing these items somewhere "plastic-free"?
