K Jucha 2/11/2021 8:34 AMTBH, what I find frustrating by a plastic-free challenge is that one needs to be affluent to replace plastic wrapped bulk items (such as bags of rice) with loose rice from the co-op.
Now that my husband and I are on a fixed income, maintaining my small plastic free habits is quite costly for us. I am doing my best but it is disheartening when I find myself reaching for cheaper bagged items as opposed to bulk items. -
K Jucha 1/22/2021 6:05 AMIt's a bit difficult for me this week because I am visiting family. The family I am visiting does not compost, etc. Still, I will forge ahead! -

Reflection QuestionCommunity Pick Up Plastic LitterHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
K Jucha 1/16/2021 11:34 AMI don't know if 'connecting' is the right word. Instead, it makes me realize how much alcohol drinking is done in parks and while driving, I see lots of beer cans, and glass alcohol bottles tossed on roads from drivers who were drinking and driving. -
Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Assemble a Zero Waste KitWhat items do you keep in your kit? What steps have you taken to help make this a habit and remember to bring your kit with you?
K Jucha 1/16/2021 11:31 AMI have several plastic utensils (which were given to me even though I asked various restaurants NOT to include plasticware), left over plastic take-out food contains, and cloth napkins. I wash and reuse all of those items.
I also carry a small metal food knife w a cover on it for cutting food (I don't use a plastic knife since it doesn't cut well), and an
aluminum water bottle, travel mug, and a bamboo fork. -
Reflection QuestionCommunity Support a Sharing EconomyWhat are the benefits of a sharing economy? How has joining a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with the stuff you use and with your friends, family and/or neighbors?
K Jucha 1/16/2021 11:25 AMI used to send bags and bags of items to a well known thrift store but I recently read that 80% of items sent there wind up in the landfill.
I now buy MUCH LESS than in the past, and what I no longer need, I try to sell locally via an app.
Going this route made me appreciate others who are trying to find. a better home for unused items other than the landfill.-
Carolyn Wieland 1/17/2021 4:38 PMIt has been disheartening to learn that the textile recycling market isn't as glorious as we think of it!
