Lori's Actions
At Home
Recycle Plastic Caps
I will recycle 2 plastic caps each day by placing them back on the (plastic) bottles before placing them in my recycling bin.
Personal Care
Plastic-free Shaving
I have started using a man's metal razor for shaving rather than the women's plastic throw-away type.
At Home
Used Rather Than New
I will continue to look for used items rather than new, especially while shopping for books
Community
Pick Up Plastic Litter
I will pick up 1 piece(s) of plastic litter each day and dispose of it responsibly.
At Home
No Plastic Laundry
I plan on reducing my use of plastic jugs by using Liquidless Laundry Detergent Sheets with biodegradable packaging.
Food
Skip Single-Use Plastic for Freezing Food
I will use reusable containers when freezing food and opt for glass or metal when purchasing new containers.
Food
Ditch the Baggie
I will ditch the zippered plastic bags for food storage and switch to reusable containers.
Food
Ditch the Plastic Wrap
I will ditch plastic wrap and use reusable containers, lids or wraps instead.
At Home
Extend the Life of Electronics
Manufacturers want you to replace your phones every year. I will keep my phone for at least 3 years and make any necessary repairs or updates to keep it functioning as long as possible.
At Home
Ditch the Disposable Cleaning Wipes
I will replace my disposable cleaning wipes with a reusable brush or cloth.

Lori Joseph 2/28/2022 10:16 AMThank you Captain Dave for inspiring us all to do what we can to help attain a cleaner healthier earth, I was glad to be reminded how to commit to reducing my carbon footprint, I've also learned a lot about how to reduce my plastic consumption, it was fun! Way to go! :) -
Lori Joseph 2/28/2022 10:09 AMI now pay attention to those clothing brands that are eco-friendly, recently purchased slippers that are washable, also washable sneakers, Allbirds is a great brand, my son wears them as well. -
Lori Joseph 2/28/2022 10:05 AMWe got rid of all our plastic straws years ago, now use only stainless steel, and we try to avoid restaurants that still use plastic straws, gotta give Starbucks cred for eliminating straws. -
Lori Joseph 2/28/2022 10:00 AMI've always tried to read the plastic identification codes on the bottom of plastic items, recently got take-out that came in a plastic container (difficult to avoid) and the code was #5 so it was recyclable, I try to avoid ordering from restaurants that don't use #1 #2 or #5. -
Lori Joseph 2/28/2022 9:53 AMThe weather is great, feels like spring, cleaned out my composting area today, composting is a great way to reduce plastic use! -
Lori Joseph 2/26/2022 7:56 AMInstead of using K-cup Pods in my Keurig, even my compostable ones, I often use my Ekobrew reusable filter, filling it with my own coffee and so avoiding purchasing pods at all. -
Lori Joseph 2/26/2022 7:51 AMWhen I walk my dog in areas that require waste be picked up, I use biodegradable doggie bags that are vegetable/plant based and are compostable. -
Lori Joseph 2/25/2022 7:58 AMI own a Keurig coffee maker, don't really use it much but when I do, I use 100% compostable pods with paper tops instead of the regular pods, OneCoffee is a good brand. -
Lori Joseph 2/25/2022 7:50 AMRather than dryer sheets, I have been using 100% wool dryer balls, have been using them for at least 10 years, love them! -
Lori Joseph 2/24/2022 10:57 AMWent to Whole Foods today, bought several tomatoes, did not use a plastic bag, they got home with no bruises. :)
