My husband went food shopping with me on Monday and he decided against several items because of the plastic and foam tray they were in. Yay!

Today I took out my crockpot and made Rajma- an Indian kidney bean dish that makes a lot of leftovers our family uses for lunch. I was able to purchase all the ingredients plastic free at the Wedge CoOp. I will admit that without thinking, I bought ready-made naan that came in a plastic bag with a twist-tie to go with it. I do use such bags for cat litter however next time I will try to make my own naan.

Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

One benefit I see in growing my own food is reusing black plastic containers that aren't recyclable. I just started growing micro greens in the rectangular and circular containers we have received from past take-out orders. They'er working great as growing trays!

Great idea. I've just been throwing this in the garbage. Now I have a reuse!

Today I planned to cook pasta primavera as my "zero-plastic" meal... I bought all the veggies and realized that the pasta I have is in a box that has a little plastic window. Rats! But hey! I'm going to write an email to the company and ask them to discontinue the plastic window. If you eat pasta and it comes in a box like this, I encourage you to do this for your brand as well!

I THINK you can still recycle that ... (I know that's true for envelopes with windows anyway). If nothing else, you can at least remove the window and still recycle the box. Great work doing a whole meal plastic free - not easy!

At the beginning of 2020 I took pictures of my single use plastic waste every week and then posted it on Facebook along with my thoughts on how I could do better. Then COVID hit and I wasn't able to cope with it all so I stoped posting but kept trying my best through all the stress. Now I'm looking to refocus and step up my game again.
