So much of the plastic in the ocean is from commercial fishing nets, not straws, swizzle sticks or 6-pack rings!

Not a big user of social media, but every little bit helps.

Single use plastics have become normalized in our society to the point that most people don't see them as a problem. What did you do to advocate for less single-use items? What would you say to a friend, colleague, or family member who may not understand why these disposables are an issue?

I'm not aware of many people who don't know that plastic disposables are an issue.  Interesting that we couldn't get a straw for our drinks this weekend, but the cup lids and eating utensils were all plastic.

We went to IKEA this weekend and bought an ICEE. They gave us a paper straw... and a Styrofoam cup *forehead smack* SMH

What did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?

we use a lot of hidden plastic.  It didn't measure the nano particles of plastic released from clothing during every wash cycle.

What are some things you can do to avoid using plastic bottles and plastic caps in the first place?

we've eliminated buying bottled water.  The RO water and a reusable bottle are much less expensive and more keep plastic out of the landfill!

Has separating your plastic bags for recycling helped you identify how you might reduce how many you have? What are you doing differently now?

I've been more conscientious about not taking a bag when only buying a few items.  Plus, no bags at Costco!

Most curbside recycling programs don’t accept plastic bags because they jam the sorting machines. Nextrex is a program where a community, school or other organization can get a free garden bench by collecting 500 lbs of plastic bags.

Does the convenience of a k-cup justify the waste?

Currently stock piling plastic milk gallons to use for maple sugaring season.  Will rinse and recycle when we're done!
