Krina's Actions
Community
Educate coworkers about recycling
Recycling can be very confusing! Educating people on what can and cannot be recycled will help keep plastics and organics out of landfills and keep the recycling stream cleaner both at work and at home.
Kids
Discover Together
I will spend 5 minutes educating my family on reasons to avoid plastic and how we will do it.
Kids
Provide Alternatives
I will provide daily plastic-free alternatives (straws, water bottles, cutlery, bar soap, bamboo toothbrushes, etc.) for my family to use.
At Home
Choose Natural Clothing Fibers
I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, acrylic or spandex.
At Home
Avoid Harmful Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics, including polyvinyl, polystyrene and polycarbonate (#3,#6 and #7).
Community
Support a Sharing Economy
I will support the sharing economy by joining a community tool or toy library.
Community
Ditch Disposable Decorations
I will avoid using disposable decorations, such as balloons and plastic table coverings, for special occasions.
Food
Cook Meals with Zero Plastic Waste
I will prepare 1 meal(s) at home each day without using any items packaged in single-use plastic.
At Home
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about plastic waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
At Home
Plan a Garden
I will plan an herb or vegetable garden for next year at my home, workplace, or community garden.

Krina Damien 1/30/2023 8:24 AMShout out to Rhea for getting our catering for the Chinese New Year Celebration with zero plastic from the restaurant! Super impressive! -
Krina Damien 1/26/2023 7:07 AMI finally checked it out! The Minneapolis Toy Library. For all the parents out there with younger kids, this place is great! I brought my not-quite-two-year-old last night, and he had such a fun time pulling all the toys off the shelves and finding his next "favorite toys." And the best part is that, when he is done loving them, we can bring them back for the next little to love and he can find his new favorite! Reducing plastic, reducing costs... What a great idea! Definitely a place worth checking out: MINNEAPOLIS TOY LIBRARY | reducing waste, fostering development, building community (mplstoylibrary.org) -

Krina Damien 1/18/2023 9:24 AMI'm excited for another Plastic-Free Challenge! The first step in making a change is simply awareness. Click through the Action Items to see some areas that you could focus on for the month of February. The next step is to start with a small change or two (or more if you want to go big!). When you've selected some action items, go ahead and post one of them on our team feed and we can cheer you on in your endeavor! Little changes can make a big difference! Go team Niron!!
