Robin's Actions
At Home
Watch a Documentary
I will watch a documentary film about plastic waste with family and friends and talk about what we learned.
Food
Swap the Snacks
I will swap 3 prepackaged snacks for unpackaged fruits or veggies or homemade or bulk items each time we need more.
At Home
Choose Natural Clothing Fibers
I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, acrylic or spandex.
At Home
Ditch the Disposable Cleaning Wipes
I will replace my disposable cleaning wipes with a reusable brush or cloth.
On-the-go
Assemble a Zero Waste Kit
I will assemble and/or use a to-go bag with cloth napkins and reusable utensils, containers, and cups to avoid disposable to-go containers and cutlery for 2 of my household members.
At Home
Make Green Cleaners
I will make 1 of my own cleaning products (cleaners, detergents, soaps) instead of buying them in new spray bottles each time.
Community

Robin Chen 2/28/2023 2:18 PMBesides this challenge being informative, I enjoyed hearing suggestions from our Valley Team. Hopefully we can build on this and grow our environmental consciousness within the Valley. -
Robin Chen 2/18/2023 3:05 PMWe are lucky to have quite a few food co-ops in the Twin Cities. You don't need to be members to shop at them, and they make it easier to shop mindfully. They have many opportunities to buy in "bulk", using your own containers. We usually shop at The Wedge and Lakewinds. The Wedge even sells bulk baby spinach, and mixed greens for salad. That is the only place we have found that we can avoid the plastic containers for greens, bringing our own containers from home.👍 -
Robin Chen 2/08/2023 8:01 AMOur Chihuahua is unreliably housetrained, so we had been using plastic lined disposable pee pads. It was a great day when I found washable pee pads. They work great!! -
Robin Chen 2/03/2023 7:52 AMMy favorite laundry soap is made by Tangie. I order it online. It comes in a bar without any plastic packaging. I cut the bar into quarters and dissolve one quarter at a time, putting each 2 cup batch into a container that I already have. 👍 -
Robin Chen 1/19/2023 7:36 PMIt has been a gradual lifestyle change for us as we have been reducing our plastic use through the years. A fun challenge. Our newest additions are plastic free razors. Many of the changes also happen to save us money. 👍
