Hi, all - it would be lovely to get to know the Prospect Park team!

I chair the Prospect Park Association's Environment Committee.  Our website is https://prospectparkmpls.org/ppa/committees/environment.html if you are interested.  I work as a data analyst, have a border-collie mix named Lucy and grew up in the neighborhood.

If you are comfortable doing so, please introduce yourself.  It would be great to know how you all found out about this challenge.

    Thanks!

    Mary

Hi, Kari!  Those are all tough ones.  I have been able to get away from plastic bottles for laundry detergent by using those sheets of detergent.

My name's Kari and I live on 4th Street with my husband, our 2 teenage kids, and our dog.

We do some things well (shop at co-ops in bulk when possible, bring our own bags and containers, carry reusable water bottles, etc.) but the challenge has already helped us see some areas for improvement, such as buying milk in half-gallon cardboard cartons instead of one gallon plastic jugs.

Some items are tough, however, such as cheese, meat, crackers, and cereal (other than bulk granola and oatmeal), all of which are almost always wrapped in plastic. Any suggestions on reducing this plastic use would be helpful!
