Ditch Disposable Decorations

I will avoid using disposable decorations, such as balloons and plastic table coverings, for special occasions.

Food

Buy milk/juice in cartons, no plastic

We no longer buy juice or milk if they are in plastic jugs. Cartons only. So far, so good.

Post it, don't throw it away

This is my super power. Buy joining groups like "Buy Nothing" and "FreeCycle" and posting on mainstream social media sites like Facebook Market Place and Next Door Neighbor we have given away: used carpet and padding 3x; plastic cat litter buckets 6x (we no longer buy those); tile we removed; leftover paint; junk wood; free calendars x 6; an old tire; a broken lawn mower...It's been amazing.

Ditch the Plastic Dry Cleaning Bags

I will call ahead to ask if I can bring my own garment bag to the dry cleaner or request no bag.

How did you decorate for your party? How will you use these decorations again?

Posted on a mom's group for decorations. Received, used and passed along.

Had a b-day party for a four year old and posted the decorations on Plymouth Mamas; people lined up to take and reuse them.

Challenge is going well. Emailed dry cleaner today and asked that they switch us over to a garment bag instead of plastic.

Although we don't use a dry cleaner, it would sure be a nice option for them. You could even pay a deposit and it would save them money in the end!

Replaced plastic trash bags with paper grocery bags. (Mostly replaced all shopping bags with reusable totes).

The silicone storage bags for food are expensive but they work great, don't they? They seem like they will last a long time, and some brands can even be used for sous vide if you're into that. I made the mistake of trying out the plastic reusable bags first and they don't last long and don't stay closed.
