  • Reflection Question
    Personal Care Purchase Alternative Toothpaste
Currently, most of the packaging for toothpaste is plastic. What has been your experience using plastic-free toothpaste options? How can you advocate for more alternatives through your purchasing power and influence in community?

Creating less waste should advocate for itself.
  • Reflection Question
    At Home Avoid Harmful Plastics
Do some research on polystyrene and polyvinyl. How many items in your house already contain these toxins?

There are quite a few items that have these compounds in my house, Reading one article I did not realize that the chemicals can leach into your food.
  • Reflection Question
Food Cook Meals with Zero Plastic Waste
Do an inventory of your kitchen to see how many single-use plastics you've used in the past. What are some low-waste or reusable alternatives to these commonly used products? What would your impact be if you switched all the single-use products from your inventory to reusable? Are there any items where it would be difficult to avoid plastic waste?

I use re-usable plastic containers, however if I switched to glass I would use less plastic, but I would still need to use a plastic cover.
  • Reflection Question
    On-the-go Use Reusable Utensils
How can you be an advocate for using resusables instead of disposables for the rest of your community? Where are they currently dependent on disposable cutlery, and how can you convince them of the need for change?

The cost, you don't have spend more to buy more when you can wash them.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Shop the Bulk Bins
How has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think our society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?

    Jim Borisevich's avatar
    Jim Borisevich 2/11/2022 4:14 AM
I feel people rely on prepackaged because they don't want to do the work to separate and pack the food themselves
  • Reflection Question
    Community Pick Up Plastic Litter
How does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?

It helps because my son see's it, so he picks up litter as well, making the next generation better off
  • Reflection Question

Besides having access to fresh herbs and vegetables, what benefits will you see from growing your own garden?

I can't eat tomatoes from most stores, when they aren't soil-grown and vine-ripened they lack so much flavor.

A home garden also provides an excuse to get outside and breathe fresh air.
  • Reflection Question
    Kids Make Thoughtful Toy Purchases
Does your child play differently with natural or repurposed toys than with other toys? If so, how?

My son likes to "make" his own toys, by using sticks, rocks, or logs. To him they are better the store bought.
