Erin Benoit 3/03/2021 7:52 PMI learned that just because it's "recyclable" doesn't mean it's going to always end up where you think it might. It also just made me realize how many things are plastic. It's really hard to avoid when lots of food comes packaged that way. -
Reflection QuestionCommunity Estimate Your Plastic FootprintWhat did you find out about your plastic consumption by using the calculator? What did or didn't surprise you?
Erin Benoit 2/15/2021 8:56 PMWith "0" on the furniture/other category I did well. But entering in something on the last item " other, toys, furniture" can drastically change the outcome . I was not sure what to list here, but it is evident that I am likely forgetting about plenty of other plastic items I use. -
Reflection QuestionPersonal Care Collect My ContactsTake a moment to estimate how many disposable daily contacts you may have used over the years. What would be your impact now of switching to a contact brand with a longer lifespan?
Erin Benoit 1/31/2021 7:36 PMMaybe 390X2 . Mostly have had ones you change every 2 weeks. In December I switched to monthly contacts. Hopefully this will have a positive impact and my eyes will be okay with these contacts! I wear glasses some as well. -
Reflection QuestionOn-the-go Skip the StrawHave you noticed a shift in your community as more messaging about reusable straws becomes mainstream? Cite some examples.
Erin Benoit 1/31/2021 7:33 PMYes, pre-covid times anyway I noticed some coffee shops offer straw less cups to drink cold beverages from . Also I see more and more re-usable straw you can buy. I don't know the last time I used a straw. -
Reflection QuestionFood Buy Unpackaged ProduceWhy do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?
Erin Benoit 1/31/2021 7:31 PMI am not sure who the plastic packaging is serving the most, but probably the producer and/or the grocery store.-
Kyle Samejima 2/01/2021 9:09 AMIt's also serving a global food system, in that we want foods from far away that require more or plastic packaging. So moving more toward a local food economy seems key.

Reflection QuestionAt Home Skip the Dryer SheetsHow difficult (or easy!) has it been for you to cut dryer sheets from your laundry routine?
Erin Benoit 1/31/2021 7:22 PMIt will be easy. I don't actually feel like they do much anyway. Unfortunately, I bought a new box a couple months ago so I guess I will use those up first unless I find someone else wants them. -
Reflection QuestionAt Home Watch a DocumentaryWhich documentary did you choose to watch? What did you learn?
Erin Benoit 1/31/2021 7:20 PMPBS special on Plastics. I learned more about how bad plastic is for our planet. I kind of knew that not all the things we "recycle" can really be recycled, but didn't really know how bad the situation was.
