This weekend I picked up reusable produce bags from buy nothing. I feel like that deserves double the points - right?

My plastic free challenge is going well. I am really excited to bee learning new ways to lessen my contribution to landfills, and hope this consciousness can carry through for months and years to come. It is really fun to have the challenge be so localized to my community.

It is going well. I love being more intentional about my plastic use, and find myself being more conscious of my plastic footprint.

What are everyone's favorite things to buy from the bulk bins?? What is underrated??
  • Reflection Question
On-the-go Use A Reusable Mug or Collapsible Cup
Great job on getting rid of your disposable cup habit! How does it make you feel? Are there any situations where you still struggle to use a reusable mug?

I think those last minute coffee runs are always tricky to remember the mug.
  • Reflection Question
    On-the-go Use Reusables at Work
What has been the easiest thing about using reusables at work, and what has been the hardest? Have you convinced any of your colleagues to join you in using reusables?

It is nice that we have a kitchen/sink. I am able to rinse things out with out putting them dirty back into my bag.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Shop the Bulk Bins
How has buying bulk impacted the quality of the food you receive? Why do you think our society relies more on prepackaged foods rather than buying in bulk?

I think it all has to do with our rushed culture. People don't like to take the extra minute to scoop their own oats, label the bag, etc. I think there is a bit of a barrier to access as well, because containers cost a lot of money.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Buy Unpackaged Produce
Why do you think these products have so much plastic packaging? Who is the plastic packaging really serving -- the consumer, the producer, or someone else?

I think pre-packaged produce helps the producer sell in bulk. It tricks the consumer into thinking they need 8 apples, for example.
  • Reflection Question
    Food Make Your Own
How do you feel about being more involved in the food preparation process? Joyful, overwhelmed, engaged, empowered? What are the benefits of choosing to process or produce your own food instead of buying it pre-processed?

I feel empowered. I love growing my own food!
  • Reflection Question
    Food Ditch the Plastic Wrap
Which method did you try? Do you prefer reusable containers or reusable wraps?

I like reusable containers! I am not sure how to best clean my beeswax wraps.
