Carolyn 's Actions
Personal Care
Hair care
I have switched to bar shampoo and conditioner from TARE Market. They work very well.
At Home
Ditch the Disposable Cleaning Wipes
I will replace my disposable cleaning wipes with a reusable brush or cloth.
Food
Swap the Snacks
I will swap 1 prepackaged snacks for unpackaged fruits or veggies or homemade or bulk items each time we need more.
At Home
Swap Sponges for Longer Lasting Reusable Options
I will ditch the sponge and use a reusable or compostable option such as a brush, scrubber or dishrag instead.
At Home
Plan a Garden
I will plan an herb or vegetable garden for next year at my home, workplace, or community garden.
At Home
Skip the Dryer Sheets
I will replace dryer sheets with a reusable alternative or use nothing at all.
At Home
Choose Natural Clothing Fibers
I will purchase clothing made with natural fibers, such as cotton, linen, or wool, rather than synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, acrylic or spandex.
At Home
Recycle Plastic Bags
Instead of trashing them, I will recycle 2 plastic bags per day by bringing them to a drop-off.
On-the-go
Skip the Straw
I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill per day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Carolyn Anderson 2/11/2023 1:08 PMWe have revised and improved our recycling after I watched the kickoff program which updated me on what's recyclable. For example, I didn't know that the interior plastic cereal bags are recyclable. Small thing, but something.-
Sheila Sheldon 2/13/2023 9:21 AMI was so glad to learn this too.

Carolyn Anderson 2/11/2023 1:03 PMAs a way to not purchase ready made snacks, I made pretzels from the zerowastechef webpage. They are tasty, but I'll make them smaller next time. -
Carolyn Anderson 2/07/2023 7:15 PMAt an event last night they offered water in a plastic bottle or a plastic cup. I chose the bottle because I know I can recycle it. Should have brought my own. -
Carolyn Anderson 2/07/2023 7:54 AMI plan to make homemade snacks like pretzels and roasted chickpeas. Does anyone use a silicone popcorn popper? Does it work well?-
Sheila Sheldon 2/08/2023 1:20 PMYes! I have one from Pampered Chef and I love it, it works great! -
Amy Maas 2/07/2023 10:37 AMI have not used a silicone popper, but I've used a paper bag! Lunch bag style, folded top over. Worked fine!

Carolyn Anderson 2/03/2023 5:59 AMTwo tips I learned from last night’s kickoff are that anything black is not recyclable no matter the recycle number and that TREX collects plastic bags to make lumber. -
